Ark Royal – the Royal Navy’s outdated space carrier – has won a smashing victory against the enigmatic aliens, capturing one of their starships and returning to Earth. Now, Admiral Theodore Smith and his crew are assigned to command a fleet charged with making a deep-penetration raid into alien territory, a fleet made up of carriers from four different nations.
But with a crewman who isn't what he seems, untested pilots and international friction – and a new and dangerous alien plan - can Ted and his crew survive their mission ... or will they die, alone and unremarked, hundreds of light years from home?

The Nelson Touch Ark Royal Book 2 eBook Christopher Nuttall Justin Adams
These books as a whole are entertaining to read. Christopher clearly has a creative mind but the writing across the entire series needs some work. The biggest issues I had with the entire series:
Repetition: In an effort to provide filler material certain subjects are rehashed time and time again. Typically it is "background" material. For example, the dispositions of pilots. "Pilots are prima donnas because they could die at any moment". This particular item is written in one way or another at least 6 times. A similar type of descriptive information about Sin City was restated again and again. Ark Royal was characterized again and again and again. It really is to the point of annoyance and happens throughout all three books of the series.
Lack of innovation: One of my greatest appreciations of sci-fi is that it can be used to really explore new concepts and ideas. These ideas do not have to be technological, they can also be societal. The entire series lacked creativity in this regard. I am not even sure the tram line concept is based on anything in particular. There was a description of "real space" drives that allow the ship to stop and speed up quickly but then much discussion about classical physics and "ballistic trajectories". It was only until late in the series was there a real discussion about the delays associated with space communications. Nano bots were thrown around as well but only for particular applications.
Lack of description: Instead of re-hashing the same descriptive blocks I would have like to have seen a better description of what the ships looked like - especially ark royal. I had little sense of scale during battles or recon activities.
Lack of depth: Over three books it could be possible to have a wider set of characters and perspectives. For example, the cyborgs who were placed on New Russia, what happened to them? That thread was never followed up. Other parts of humanity and their reaction to the events could have been a part.
Sex: I really did not like the use of sex throughout the series. There are other series where I found it to be acceptable but I did not feel that it added anything substantial and was a bit "trashy".
I felt the conclusion to book III was not very well done and that is was a "cheap" ending.

The Nelson Touch Ark Royal Book 2 eBook Christopher Nuttall Justin Adams Reviews
Sequels, that word brings up a dread feeling inside. Will one be as good as 'Empire Strikes Back'? Or, will we be forced to endure 2 hours of JarJar Binks? The Nelson Touch is the Empire Strikes Back to the Ark Royal series. We see Admiral Smith dealing with now no longer being in command of Ark Royal, Captain Fitzwilliam dealing with being a captain, Kurt and his personal problems and dealing with being CAG, Lieutenant Lopez and Rose are back as well. We get to see the Royal Marines (along with the United States Marines) make combat drops. This book delivers. The author has 2 more books lined up .. and I hope he has more.
This volume continues the saga of first contact with an aliens. Unfortunately, the contact was through battle.
The aliens continued to attack human civilizations. Those captured refused to talk to the humans (or were unable to due to physiology.)
Ark Royal continued to be the most able ship to withstand attack from the aliens. Thus, they were given orders to go forth into enemy territory, giving the aliens reason to leave human planets alone.
The major nations of the earth worked together to build a fleet adequate to go into alien territory. The purpose was to learn more about the aliens and to show that humans could do equal damage as was done to them. There was intent to capture at least one planet.
In each battle, the humans suffered loss but did greater damage to the alien fleets the encountered.
One battle led to a takeover of an alien planet. This led to a greater knowledge of how the aliens lived. It also allowed for the capture of equipment, the filming of cities and artwork. Seeing the aliens living in the ocean was also enlightening.
There was one incident observed by earths fleet which led to a concern as to a third group of aliens which were also at war with the first group of aliens.
As the fleet returned to earth with a report of their efforts s they found that the aliens had formed a larger fleet which attacked earth.
To learn the Royal secret, how earths defences did against the alien attack and to see the development of staff on Ark Royal, read this book. Then there is another book to see what happens next.
This is the much anticipated sequel to Ark Royal, and it was worth waiting for. The new crewman who is not what he seems to be adds a depth and a twist to the story I wasn't expecting. This is classic space opera at its best.
